More Moped Sketches – Controls, Bars, Grips

It’s a slow day in the office, so I did some more moped sketches. I’ll have to do this more often as it’s more fun than doing actual work. Anyway, I was thinking about bars, grips and controls. Nothing real innovative, but just thinking about the details. It would be really cool to design a pair of grips, or controls, that went on the market for all of us to use. If you could buy a new set of high-design controls and grips, would you want them futurish, retro, military-grade, or – ?

Designers working on particular concepts would be expected to do dozens of sketches just on say, the curve of the brake lever. Then the team would decide which fit the overall feel for the bike they were designing for. Just this one part would be scrutinized for weeks. Design is the coolest job in the world.

I have often thought about designing cool low-rise bars that look a little more battle-worthy than regular club mans or “bat mins”. I should do a whole series of handlebar options.

I would most like to design a pair of grips.

When designing products, I usually stay in sketch mode for the first concept proposals, and then move to 3D modeling later on. Sometimes I don’t do any CAD at all, and somebody else does it. I could sketch all day. Computer drawing… not as fun for me.

More sketches will be coming up. I like the idea of “military-spec” moped parts…

  1. you would do hundreds of designs for the controls and a team would scrutinize them for weeks until they decided on the right one….or you could be the new Tomos team and just take them from a chinese scooter and go to lunch.

  2. Man, you’re good! I wish I had you’re drawing skills.
I like the idea of futurish or military-grade grips.
